How should professional athletes be treated?

Through sports existance athletes have done wrong or commited a
crime.Over the past couple of weeks there has been two athletes that
were reported of crimes. Ironically, both play for Pittsburgh
Steelers. Wide reciever, Santonio Holmes was accused of hitting a
woman with a bottle. Quaterback, Ben Rothlesburgher was accused of
sexual assault. These are only two cases out of many. There are many
questions that could be asked. Questions such as, do they get off
easy, how severe should there punishment be, why do they do things
like this? What do you think?

  1. I think everyone should get of Ben Rothlesburghers back. One he didn't do anything, he was accused, not found guilty. This girl is just trying to squeezing money out of a very successful football player.

  2. I think it shouldn't matter if they are professional athletes and are famous. If they break the law they should go be punished just like any other person.

  3. Just because someone’s famous or a celebrity doesn’t mean they should be let off the hook. If they’re found guilty, then they should receive the same penalty as any other human being. It’s only fair. If they let them off easy, there would be no lesson learned. Their children or fans may think the crime they committed isn’t that serious. When in reality, it can cost them their career…

  4. Professional atheletes should be treated just like everybody else because first and foremost, they're people. Ben was found innocent but he was also accused for it before. If they're found guilty for their crimes, they should be treated just like everybody else. Unfortuantely, with money, people can walk away scott free. It goes to show you that money is at the top of the governments list, even ahead of justice. Professional athletes are people exactly like us. They don't magically transform into a superhuman when they decide to partake in professional sports like the NFL.

  5. No matter what it is their gonna get off easy. If it was one of use doing the crime, we would be punished to the max. Just because they are famous and have all the money in the world doesn't mean they should be treated differently. Ben Roethlisberger got 6 games suspension. Holmes gets traded. If you ask me, it's rediculous to see somebody famous get off easy.

  6. It is common for professional athletes to receive special treatment for being famous. Fact is, they do end up getting away with a lot of things that normal people wouldn’t. I think that if a person commits a crime than they should pay the price just like everyone else. It isn’t fair to sentence a person to life in prison for killing someone, but sentence an athlete a year in jail for the same crime. It just isn’t right. “You do the crime, you do the time.” Period.

  7. If a professional athlete committed a crime I think they should be punished the same as any other individual. Since they are held in such high esteem in our society, they should be extra careful in their actions because every move is publicized.

  8. well my oppinion on this is that since they are so popular and thousands of people love them, they think that gives them the right to go out and do whatever they want, wrong!, the law is the law no matter who you are, and yes i also think that they get out of punishment easier because they have money. personally its unfiar for ordinary citizens that do the same crime that a pro athlete does, but gets charged 20x more.

  9. When it comes to getting off easy when committing a crime or breaking a law, I don't think its mostly because how famous you are but more so on the fact how much money you have. Affording the best lawyers fall along with having money to because if you got the money you can get the lawyers that can give you the least affenses there is if known you comitted a crime. Either or famous or not the professional athletes are going to pay huge fines for doing what they did and may recieve some time, the average person either can't afford the fines so in that case spend more time behind bars. If you look at it this way no one wants to pay fines at all so if professional athletes are comitting crimes all that money there making is probably being used for keeping them out of jail.

  10. Most athletes that are well known get off easy, but also are most hassled by the media. I think they should be treated eqaully as regular citizens.

  11. I think that if they do things that are bad and are found guilty in court then they should get the same punishment as everyone else. But the thing is that everyone in the world treats athletes like if they were not human. They do make bad decisins just like every one of us, but they should be forgiven just like we are
