As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness weakness. -Henry David Thoreau
Henry David Thoreau was a transcendentalist whose beliefs truly perplexed me. He emphasizes many things including the need for self-contemplation and the importance of nature. However, what he most strongly emphasizes in order to live the best life are simplifying, self-reliance, and truth. Whenever in a time of great stress or when I have to study for a big exam, I go outside and relax and just try to forget about the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It helps me to simplify my problems and focus on what is truly important in life.
Where do you like to go to escape from the pressures of your life? (It doesn't have to be a real place). Why THAT place? What is your best childhood memory? Describe it in detail.Where and when do you feel your absolute best? Why?What is the most soothing sound you can imagine?Which colors affect your mood the most? How do those colors affect it?When during the day do you feel the most at ease? Why? What is it about that time of day that provides comfort?
